Sustainable Paper Trays for Fresh Meat

With stricter EU eco-friendly and plastic restriction policies fully implemented across Ireland, high-plastic rigid packaging is gradually phased out in the local fresh meat retail market. Our reliable client provides fresh raw meat for mainstream Irish supermarket chains, and has adopted full PP and PET plastic meat trays for daily packaging for many years. Faced with tightening local plastic supervision, the client had to seek qualified eco-friendly packaging alternatives to meet market compliance standards.

After repeated sample tests and performance verification, the client customized 1mm thick double-sided Custom Pe Coated Paper trays. The finished trays are processed from premium Pe Coated Paper Roll and certified Pe Coated Paper Roll Food Grade, made of high-quality Pe Coated Kraft Paper with food-grade virgin wood pulp and uniform double-sided PE coating. In actual packaging workflow, fresh meat is placed steadily on the kraft paper base, then fully sealed with vacuum wrapping film.

In this packaging solution, plastic material only comes from the outer vacuum wrapping film, accounting for roughly 10% of the total packaging weight, which cuts overall plastic consumption by 90% compared with traditional plastic trays. The integrated PE coating endows the paper tray with premium oil-proof and water-resistant performance, preventing meat juice and blood from soaking through the kraft paper base. Featuring high rigidity and structural stability, the virgin pulp tray fits the client’s automatic vacuum packing lines perfectly, and keeps intact without deformation inside low-temperature supermarket cold cabinets.

This sustainable meat packaging has been fully rolled out in all cooperative supermarket stores. Recognizing its stable quality, food safety and prominent plastic reduction advantages, the client maintains consistent long-term bulk purchasing of our paper roll materials and finished paper trays.
